National Dance Company Wales is an artist-led company with a wide-ranging international programme of contemporary dance. This includes repertory touring, a portfolio of research activity, training courses for young people and presenting and curating new and established artists.
Founded in 1983 as Diversions, the Company moved in 2004 to new, purpose-built premises at the Dance House in Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff. In 2008, the Company was recognised with a Beacon Company award for excellence by the Arts Council of Wales and a year later changed its name to National Dance Company Wales.
As a leader in the development of the artform in Wales, under the Artistic Direction of co-founder Ann Sholem, National Dance Company Wales enriches the cultural life of the nation by bringing to Wales some of the world’s greatest choreography.
Active internationally, National Dance Company Wales has productions from Ohad Naharin, Stephen Petronio, Itzik Galili and Eleesha Drennan, and has recently toured to India, China, Switzerland, Italy and Germany.
