Renewal and rejuvenation for National Dance Company Wales as search for Artistic Leadership gets underway

- PERIOD OF REVIEW COMES TO A CLOSE AS RECRUITMENT BEGINS AT END OF AUGUST
- RECRUITMENT WILL EXTEND TO NEWLY INTRODUCED CHIEF EXECUTIVE ROLE AND NEW BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The recruitment process for a new Artistic Director for National Dance Company Wales is underway, marking the beginning of a dynamic new era for Wales' flagship dance company. The Company will be looking for a fresh artistic leadership to drive its vision forward, and it is expected that a number of high calibre individuals will be showing interest in the role.

Following a period of review and planning in consultation with all members of the Company and its stakeholders, NDCWales will now move forward in re-establishing a robust and effective leadership for the Company, both artistically and in terms of its business and administrative management. Alongside the Artistic Director the Company will be recruiting a Chief Executive, as well as a refreshed Board of Trustees, with recruitment set to take place throughout the autumn of 2014.

The Company's Chairman Andrew Davies said "We are delighted to be in a position to move forward with the recruitment of a new senior team for the Company. It follows what has been a significant year of change for us, during which time I have been continually impressed by the resilience, dedication and professionalism of the Company's Interim management and staff, both artistic and administrative. I am sure that these attributes help the Company respond well to a renewed and reinvigorated leadership as NDCWales continues to deliver world-class dance for the people of Wales and further afield."

The announcement comes as the Company begin rehearsals for their autumn tour, featuring a new addition to their repertoire, Tuplet by the highly acclaimed and in demand Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman. NDCWales is the first UK Company to perform the work of this prolific choreographer, largely considered one of the most exciting choreographers currently creating work on the international contemporary dance scene. Touring to 3 key UK venues with an international leg to festivals in Milan and Normandy, the work will sit within an accompanying programme of works by Stephen Shropshire, Stephen Petronio, Christopher Bruce and Company House choreographer and Rehearsal Director Lee Johnston.

National Dance Company Wales offers an enormous opportunity for a future Artistic Director, boasting a highly valuable resource and infrastructure, within the UK and international dance sector. Testament to Wales' cultural commitment to dance as an art form, over the years the Company has worked with a world-class collection of choreographers including Christopher Bruce, Stephen Petronio, Itzik Galili, Angelin Preljocaj and Stephen Shropshire, to name a few. As well as this, the Company has been committed to nurturing the dance landscape in the UK by introducing lesser known work of upcoming choreographers to its UK and international audiences, as well as running an extensive Education and Artist Development programme focused on developing the art form from grassroots level up to professional development opportunities for dancers. The Company's home the Dance House, based at Wales Millennium Centre is widely considered to be one of the best facilities for dance in Europe. As the Company moves into a new stage of its 30 year existence, it is seeking a fresh take on what Wales' national dance company can offer audiences in Wales and beyond.
