This is a wonderful company to be joining and I relish the opportunities to deliver a vision that engages with audiences both here in Wales and internationally, as well as to develop a participation programme that nurtures an enthusiasm for dance across all communities."
The new Artistic Director announcement follows the recent appointment of the Chief Executive, Paul Kaynes who has over 25 years of experience working in the arts, including the Cultural Olympiad arts and culture programme which ran alongside the Olympics and Paralympics. This partnership of artistic and audience focused knowledge and experience will provide a foundation for a renewed focus for a Company with a rich history of using of dance to engage and inspire audiences with a passion for the art form across Wales, the UK and internationally.
National Dance Company Wales Chairman, Andrew Davies said: “I am absolutely delighted that NDCWales has attracted someone of the calibre of Caroline Finn as our new Artistic Director. She will bring her international reputation, visionary approach and huge potential to Wales. Caroline has a great track record and her work is fresh and ambitious and I, and the rest of the board of trustees and company are excited and confident that she will produce exceptionally high quality dance that is inspiring and engaging, not only to Wales but also the rest of the world.”
David Alston, Arts Director at the Arts Council of Wales said:
"Arts Council of Wales is very pleased the company attracted such a strong field for this key appointment and that from that field such an exciting and applauded talent as Caroline Finn has emerged as the company's new artistic lead. This bodes well for the company and for Wales, particularly in the galvanising period leading to Wales hosting the British Dance Edition in 2016. Caroline brings great international experience and perspectives and has all the attributes to embed the company in Wales's cultural life in the future, and make the most of the energies and talent the company has and can involve."
National Dance Company Wales offers a valuable resource to be built upon, within the UK and international dance sector; and it is the brief of this new leadership to seek out opportunities to develop the role of the Company further both nationally and internationally.
Caroline Finn will take up the position of Artistic Director at National Dance Company Wales in September 2015.
